Hi,
I'm very keen on helping my partner keeping track of
his blood sugar readings, meals, times of day, etc...

His writing is chicken scratch so I do the honors of
writing it down in a nice little book.

Recently I thought it might be kind of nice to keep his
readings on an excel sheet on my PC.

I could make up the template I suppose, but to be lazy,
does anyone else have a resource to one allready made up?

What are the different ways you record your
diabetic diary?

Okay well I'm thinking I should definately do this for the beginning of the situation. I will try to find foods that work well for me and conduct rigorous testing. I am axious to see what the outcome is for me.

I think the idea of keeping a diary is a good one. It can help your doctor determine if your treatment is working properly, and also give you an incentive to take care of yourself, or if you are helping a loved one keep track.

Keeping a diary can help your personal doctor a lot as he can see exactly what is happening and when. I really like this idea.

If you google and look online I know there are several you can download to use on your computer as well as websites where you type it in on their website and keep your records there and then print them out when you need to take them to the dr.

Your unit. almost all of them now has a usb port. You get the cabel and the software and download your details, print it off and take it with you. No books needed. You can even have them emailed to the doctor long before you get there!

check out your meters website for details.

the last meter I tried that with they wanted me to pay $20 for the cable and you had to have the software too.
Check out your meter's website to see if you have to pay for the cable.
At that time I found it cheaper and easier to use a free site for uploading your blood sugars manually and printing it out.

I know we should probably be keeping track this way and on occasion we do avidly but then it tapers off therefore making our journal not so effective at showing the whole picture.

Hi, folks. I have been diabetic for about 5 and 1/2 years now and have spent time in various stages of denial and "why me?" and all that sort of hoopla. To be brief, I saw my doc on July 1, made a commitment to get totally serious about this whole diabetic thing up to, and including, the use of a diary. I use the diabetic day planner that one of you referred to in an earlier thread in this e-mail. I have used it METICULOUSLY since the visit with my doc (as well as massive changes in my diet), and I am pleased to report that my bg results have been vastly improved. I am eating better, following a somewhat rigid (yet strangely enjoyable!!) meal program, and the diary is very, very helpful, in my opinion. For anyone considering the use of a diary to record your physical activities, bg levels, what you eat, how you feel, etc., you should not hesitate.:):)

I have found a diary to be very, very helpful, as has my doctor. Since July 1, I have seen a 3.7 point drop in my HbA1c. Yes, it was well out of the proper range but, with the use of a diary, I am now plainly seeing what is working for me (both in diet and exercise). It clearly helps me stay focused from day to day.
