With teh flu season upon us, its time to get the willness pack prepared.
When kids get sick and they ahve diabeets its agood idea ot have a vial of insulin R, if they are not on insuln to begin with. P White cellcounts elevated fevers trigger the body to relase more glycogen to compensate for the bdy being under attack.

Your kids will need ot test frequently.. and if elevations go above 180 a small shot is needed.

Also foods are important. Soups, ice tea made with s a 40/sugar 60 splenda mix, lemonade with tehsame mix, chciken m turkey etc are also easily digested quick proteins t keep balance in Glucose metabolisim.

medicaie for teh sniffles and decongestatnt shoudl eb effective.. Many prefer the teh diabetes related versions but in my experience they are not as effective as standard meds. Vicks 44 D has on me less impact that Diatussin.
So use whats effective and dont spend the money on diabetes specific cold medicine.

Also dont send yourchildren to school while having a severe cold.. teh ability to test and take shots is difficult in some schools.

I was reading an article tehother day.
Manyparents are using Zinc pops for colds, It is not reccomended unles stheer is a znc deficincy. But.........
Those flavored decongestant pops have some corn syrup in em. Two should be considered the same as a slice of bread.

Old fashioned stuff is still best according to the virologists for diabetics.
Home made or canned soups, Kool Aid maid with splenda, low sugar or sugar free jams and jellieson low carb bread.....

One said that when he used to get ill his mom made these jelly on toast stars.. they used cookie cutters and low sugar sugar free jam to make it all sparkly! It didnt helpo teh cold but it wa sfun to eat and was something special. I think thats what he was getting at.. when the kids are ill amke something special...

There are a lot of little different things that you can do with your child when it comes to their food and their health. You as the parent have to make it that way. I hate when my niece is sick. She is a diabetic and it seems as if when they do get sick, its worse than when a regular child does.

Those are great tips. I think that kids should be able to go to school though- They can go to the nurses at any time to test themselves.

Taking care of yourself and your kids during this flu season is very important.

I think this can be a very difficult time for a sick child and they need a lot of support and understanding from both family and friends.

Some may not even understand what is happening to them.
