I'm new here. My mom has diabetes, and I'm interested in learning all I can about it. I've already learned a lot just from reading many of your posts. Hope to learn lots more--any general advise would be appreciated. I'd like to be more informed for my mom's sake.:)

Hello and welcome to the forum. When I was first diagnosed, I was so overwhelmed with everything new I was learning, but I did not want to stop, I just read and read and read constantly about all kinds of things to do with Diabetes. There is a lot of informative stuff in here. It seems like I am still always learning something new from reading posts in here.

The people in here are great, so if you have any questions, ask them, there is always somebody who will have an answer.

It's nice to know there are people out there who care. You are right there is so much to learn! It can be overwhelming. I'm new myself.
Chris, what is the most helpful thing you learned at the beginning? Thanks!

The most important thing that I learned was that diabetes is not a death sentence. You don't have to let diabetes control you, you can control your diabetes.

Remember that!

That certainly is encouraging. :o

My mom would really like to control her diabetes with natural supplements and minimum prescription drugs. Do you have any personal experience with supplements?

kclay0840,

The main 2 things are the diet and exercise in controlling diabetes, I would suggest you to read some or all of our newsletters and also to subscribe for them.

Please visit our Diabetic Newsletter Archive (http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/-strse-template/Newsletter-dsh-Archive/Page.bok) page and read some of the newsletters there, I would suggest to start from the ones that talk about diet and exercise, like The Diabetic Diet (http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/-strse-template/Newsletter06212007/Page.bok) (June 21 2007).

Read as much as you can here at our forum and our newsletters, and in very short time you too will start feeling that you have pretty good knowledge of this disease and will be in better help for your mother.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Admin. It's been so long since I've checked my posts. With three kids it's difficult to find time to even sit down. I'll try to check out the info you suggested. Hope you are enjoying the holiday season.
