What about Pre-Packaged Food? Where can we purchase Ready-To-Meals and Snacks that fit in our diets?
We can't always prepare full meals, like at work or school.

I'm like you, I'd be interested too because I've scoured the stores around here and there's not a lot for my taste.
I have actually found a few brands of seasoned tofu at whole foods that I like. I usually fix a little extra for dinner and take it for lunch the next day.
The WASA brand of crackers are good with around 6-10 grams of carb depending on the grain. A couple of those and a slice or 3 of cheese can be pretty filling.
Natural peanut butter and sugar free jelly on a couple wasa crackers are good too for an away from home meal.
Add in a small serving of pork rinds (crunchy and NO carbs) maybe a few almonds and you're set to go

Thankyou for the tips, Dusty! I was thinking more in the line of meals in a bag that you boil on the stove or micro wave.
Sometimes people get so busy with school or work that they don't have time to prepare the healthiest meals.

There may be a few of the microwave type that are diabetic friendly but be sure to check out the ingredients closely for all the added junk.

You would think that with all the Gourmet Food packaging companies out there that someone would focus on this market.

I've often wondered why somebody hasn't jumped on the oportunity to open a totaly diabetic friendly store. Our closest town (Charlottesville) has a population of around 40,000 people and there isn't anything other than a whole foods chain store and a couple natural/organic food stores. I bet a small store specializing in all diabetic friendy products would do a booming business as fast as this disease is becoming an epidemic in this country.
There's a lot of things available on the web that you just can't get in the local stores. And how about a diabetic deli? "to go" meals that are prepared using D-friendly ingredients. Just some food for thought.
I made myself hungry again:rolleyes:

This is a very good idea and maybe someone will pick up on it soon if there isn't already something like it.

I had to check to make sure I hadn't written this. :) My daughter found those wraps at the same place and she likes the turkey bacon club wraps by South Beach. She doesn't get them often, though... they're $3.49 for the two little wraps, so I watch for coupons.
I tried a South Beach frozen dinner... I think it was pork of some kind (maybe pecan pork?) but I can't remember exactly. I was a little disappointed that it was a wee little tiny serving of the meat and a LOT of green beans but after I thought about it, that's not a bad thing for a diet meal. :) Again, though, I have to wait for a sale, all of their products seem to have very high prices... and paying that much for green beans isn't something I can often do.
Great ideas here, thanks.

here the south beach wraps are 2.87 per package at Walmart super center. My daughter love sthem. She balanes them out wiht a bit more lettuce and a jellow piled high with whipped topping. We found Winky sugar free jello to be better than Jello brand, No after taste, She sat here and made a meal of it. Then hubby had the chciken pizza, he liked it and added some extra veggies and a bit of extra cheese. Cheese has to slide off and plop to be good..... hehehe.
I wanted ot try the chciken and rice and chnese chicken dishes.
But we found that if you go to Kraft.com and register, they send you coupons. Also in teh packages themselves you get 1.00 coupons on your next purchase.
anywone want to set up a coupon swap for their favorite diet foods..?

That would be the healthy way, adding more lettuce, yes.. :) But my daughter always first takes lettuce *out* of all sandwiches and tomatoes are next. Never could get her to try lettuce. :-)

Our supermarket has a semi diabetic friendly aisle set up for diabetic foods. There are cake mixes and other sweets and also some drink mixes and pasta.
PS. What is it that causes an allergy in the iceberg lettuce? I've not heard this one before.

I went on this diet a few year ago -- when it was a LOT less expensive and I quite enjoyed the foods.
They use what they call soft canning. They have their ready made foods in a plastic dish and all you need do is to pop it into the microwave to get a great tasting meal.
If you can afford it, go to their site and pick out the foods you want. They don't need to be refrigerated or frozen. All you do is take it from your pocketbook, open it and microwave it for 2 minutes and you have a tasty meal.
Since it's s ridiculously expensive to join up though, you might go to QVC and order just the main courses. That way you only pay for the meals you want.
