I'm glad you haven't experienced it - and yes, it most certainly is possible. As a retired nurse, I saw a fair number of patients over the years who died due to diabetes and the myriad of complications that can develop.

MY father died from cerebral ischemic attack.
He was diaebtic and on oral medications, but as much as he watched his diets and took his meds, the doctors failed to to see that his control was slipping.

My grandparents dioed of complications. MY grandpa of kidney shutdown. they injected a dye that is clerly written not oto be used with diabetes or renal disease and they agve t to j\ him anyway. he died a few eeks later with heavy concentrations in his kidneys of this radio active dye.

My grandma died fom a heart condistion that according to her doctors had nothing to do with the diabetes, but rather form an illenss when she was a child.

Thankfully all of my family that died with the exception of my dad were very very old.. like wrinkled prunes.
It really depends on how much teh pateiunt wants control and is in control and how agressive they become when a complication come up whether they will die from a direct link or indirect link.

My great uncle died from type 2 diabetes. Despite the treatment, he still wasn't able to control the disease which result him had blindness on his left eye and lost his foot.

No one dies of diabetes immediately, but yes, it takes away the sheen of life and slowly kills the eprson who has the disease.

Like loosing eyesight, loosing sensation in the feet, chances of heart attack, kidney problems can plague a person having diabetes if not controlled.

i agreed that the disease will eventually caught on that person if they don't take care of themselves. That what happened to my uncle. He just was so stubborn and refused to take care of himself.

some of you are on the periphery of the disease. yes diabetes kills. Its not just those that dont take care of themselves. its the actual disease progression that causes secondary complications. regardless of how well youcontrol it, teh damage done buy the up and ndown glucose andteh stress that it causes on the body are aleading cause.

has become easier through the testing technology though, if only patients follow the program.

Many poeple, and even I am guilty of it, just dont test as often as they should,. For me its the lack of insurance ot pay for mey supplies. SO I have learned to test when I feel something is amiss. And usually I am on target.
I dicovered that my feet are my best indicator of high glucoee and my hands and arms for low glucose.

Many however woudl prefer that six pack of real coke to keepingtehir feet, Manywodl perefer that theyeat ahwoel laof of bread than keep their eyesite.
thast why ia am so hard to keep my diet in control and take my insulinon time.

I had a family member die as a result from some of the diabetic complications. It was horrible. The doctors chopped off his toe and then part of his foot and then up further and further. My uncle was not strong and died within six months, right before they were getting ready to cut his other leg off.

This was a horrible situation.
