I don't know if I have diabetes or not. My glucose level was high so my doctor suggested I test with a home meter for a month or so before my yearly check-up. I was given a Accu-Chek Compact meter and some strips but noticed some weird things that they don't talk about in the books I have. My levels are all over the place but lately my fasting morning level has been in the 150s but then it drops drastically after I eat down to the 90's and stays in around the 100-110 level through lunch. After lunch it starts to rise and then is in the 160s before bedtime. Is this a normal curve? It has gone as high as 210 a couple of times after dinner and before bedtime. When it gets down in the low 80s I have weird shaky feelings and extreme hunger. Is any of this normal? She wanted me to eat a normal diet until my appointment.
Thanks for any help

I was hoping to get some help here, but just to update. Last night my BG was 158 this morning it was 174 and two hours after eating BF it was 136. Is any of this normal?

Hi Judy
I'm surprised there are no replies to your post. I'm certainly no doctor and what I say is just my opinion but your numbers seem high enough that your doctor should have run a few more tests before sending you home with a meter. Your fasting numbers seem pretty high as well to me. They keep changing the guidelines but from what I understand, any single reading over 200 is pretty much considered diabetic.
As far as the shaky feelings, your body may be used to the higher levels and will take some time to adjust to a more normal level. When I was diagnosed a little over a year ago, I was 400+ My levels dropped rapidly due to a diet change and weight loss and I felt terrible the first couple weeks, after that things started to return to normal once my body adjusted to the lower levels.
Good luck with your upcoming checkup and keep in mind that if it is diabetes, knowing you have it is the first step in treating it. Ask all the questions you want, there's some knowledgeable folks here that will be glad to help with the answers

Hi Judy, I'm hoping you get some more answers and maybe if anyone answers the post I did above yours we'll get some educated thoughts on the subject.

Good luck and take care.
