I did a clinical trial for Chromium picolinate when I was on opral meds.
And it worked so well I could skip a day off of glucotrol and maintain a 6.5 A1C.
With insulin for type 2s it workes even better when combined with high concentration B vitamoins. Actually needing to reduce insulin by 2-5 units.
I remember taking a chromium supplement mixed in with an aloe vera drink mix as suggested by my doctor. He advised me of this as a way to help me lose weight. I could not afford the formula for longer than two months but it did help me moderately lose some weight.

I didn't know that chromium helped with glucose control. I have seen this ingredient in the Centrum vitamins on the pharmacy over the counter shelf. Are you still taking the Chromium? How do you get it into your diet?

Chromium picolinate is teh same chromium in Centrum. though the doseage is lower.
Diachrome is the one we used in tehe clinical study, and its real good. Though you can get it at GNC as well. it acts like a sensitizer as well as metabolism booster.
Clacium too helps with weight loss. If youcombine high calcium, Chromium and B vitamins, all of which diabetics ahve problems utilizing and maintaining you can see adramatic difference.
I turned type 1 and some woudl say that its only for type 2s what I am talkinga bout and its for every type!

If you had Type 2, you still do. That means you have insulin resistance, even if you are insulin dependent. Insulin resistance never goes away. That means, chromium will work great for you!
Some people can lose their insulin resistance with weight loss (have you seen SuperSize Me?), diet, and exercise, but not all.
Cinnamon is also good for Type 2's and those with insulin resistance.
An autoimmune Type 1 would have slight benefit (if any) with chromium, as they usually don't have insulin resistance unless they also have genes for Type 2 and gain weight. Some Type 1's also develop Type 2. In this case, it may help.
Try the cinnamon as well and let me know how things go.

According to teh clinical study at Joslin and the UK, chromium is not stored nor is it gleaned from food through the digestive process. Like any compromised digestive process you always will need some support.
I take chromium through crushed tablets mixed in my slimfast shake. I have swallowing complications from the worng medications for my diabetes. So I need enteric nutrition. That is I live on shakes. Whch is a good thing since shakes are so tasty!
I have type 1 not type 2. The diabetes MODY in 1962 caused Lupus and that compromised my entire system. Please do not suppose what I have. Your not my endo nor my FP nor my Diabetologist.
Anyway, chromium acts liek actos, like I said, and they found thats oem type 1s who are very actve can use actos to prevent lacticacidosis in extreme exercise.
I like the efefcts that chromium has on hair, nails and vision.
As to a comment on cinnamon. It worls in some and not in others. It dissolves my teeth and bone. so I would use any herbal idea with caution. Some people are allergic to it.

You definitely should speak with your doctor before relying on chromium to help with your insulin levels and weight loss. As is indicated here already, it can be very beneficial for some with diabetes, but not for all. For some in can actually make things worse I believe, so always consult with your doctor first. But it is definitely a great option if you can take it. I wouldn't take it from the Centrum vitamins, as most of those are poor quality and just pass right through your. I'd get a separate chromium (http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/topic.php?health=chromium) supplement and take it that way.

I've been taking chromium picolinate for about 6 years now after a doctor suggested I take it to help curb sugar cravings. I can't really say that my cravings have decreased because of it, but I believe it is helping with my metabolism. Actually, I think I would need something stronger with my sweets cravings--like shock therapy . Thankfully, I don't have diabetes, but it runs in my family.
