It’s that time of the year! Oh yes, it is the holiday season, true,*but it’s also cold & flu season as well. This week’s American Diabetes Wholesale Newsletter (http://destinationdiabetes.americandiabeteswholesale.com/Newsletter-Archives/Combat-the-Cold-Flu)*has some great tips and recommendations from our own Nurse Robbie on avoiding colds & flu. In it, she has some timely*advice directed specifically at people with diabetes, as they often have a reduced immune system.
“According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), people with diabetes who get the flu are 6 times more likely to be hospitalized with complications. People with diabetes are 3-4 times more likely to die from the flu and pneumonia.”
“It is recommended that every person with diabetes get the pneumonia vaccine since it can prevent 80% of the pneumonia cases and related complications.”
Nurse Robbie follows up with some good old common-sense tips that we can all use to stay healthy through another cold & flu season.
