I was reading the Lifescript newsletter and there was a story in it that had to do with another study. This one said that women who eat a calcium rich and low fat diet have a significantly lower risk of getting diabetes than women who don't eat that way. The study was based on 37,000 adult women nationwide and was published in the journal "Diabetes Care."
The study found that for every one-serving increase in low-fat dairy food, a woman lowered her risk of developing type 2 diabetes by about 4%.
Other studies done on men also found a similar link for men too.
As a kid my family had a lot of calcium rich meals, dairy days we called it. But I grew up a few decades ago, way before we learned that dairy fats were bad for you. I got diabetes as did my Mom. The study didn't mention if the calcium rich foods helped you to stop the diabetes or if a low fat diet did it.
So I guess it's time to buy the low fat dairy foods and start chowing down to keep diabetes away.
Unfortunately the story didn't mention if the same low fat, high calcium diet helped women who were already diabetic.
