The FreeStyle Navigator continuous glucose monitoring system is not as accurate as the current-generation home glucose meters. However, investigators believe that the device has the potential to become an important addition to the treatment of children with type 1 diabetes.

It may not be as accurate as a blood glucose monitor, but the results can provide important information to the patient as to what is happening, when they are not checking, it will be a great motivational tool!

I think it will be awhile before continuous glucose monitoring has worked out the kinks and becomes as accurate as home blood monitors, but it is a step forward.

Even catching 8/10 low blood sugars before they become dangerous is better than using only 7 fingersticks daily to try and regulate blood sugar! It just doesn't work! And no Type 1 can test every minute of every day!

If it can prevent even ONE seizure overnight in a Type 1 kid, it is a benefit.

I have faith that in time these devices will improve. I hate to think we will have to continue to rely on technology instead of a permanent cure though....oh well...
