It's now been one month and two days since I've been diagnosed with Type II. Thank goodness for annual physicals that detect conditions early before normal symptoms develop or are recognized.

I'm a 53-year-old male and my primary care physician has me on one-a-day 500mg Glucophage, which I take before breakfast. I'm exercising, watching carbs and have cut out sweets, already dropped from 255 lbs to 240 and still reducing, met with dietician and diabetes educator (twice) and checking my readings before meals and at bedtime.

My highest readings are first thing in the morning: normally 125-148 range. Before meals it's usually 80-100 range. So, thanks to what I've already read in the forums, I'll start trying a spoon full of peanut butter before bedtime to see if that will get my numbers down.

I've got an older sister that was diagnosed with Type II almost a year ago, so there's a family history. She's having a harder time getting her numbers under control. My other three siblings as well as parents are fine, but watching their numbers much more closely.

I've read and learned a tremendous amount of information about diabetes, and I'm going to classes and trying to learn even more. And, hopefully this forum will provide even more information as well as support.

Now if I could just figure out if Cigna will cover any of the testing supplies. When I got my initial stock of strips for my One Touch UltraII, the pharmacist checked and her over-the-counter price was cheaper than my co-pay for the 100-count box. Needless to say, I've got an order on the way from American Diabetes

And, everyone, thanks for making me feel so welcome.

Welcome to the forum WT!
Sounds like you're on track to get your numbers where they need to be.
I was diagnosed in june of last year at 51 soo I'm right behind you. ;)

I went from 281 down to 188 current weight by low carbing and plenty of exercise. Hope you enjoy your stay here.
