howdy,
Well, I Just want to introduce myself. I am Ron. I was just diagnosed last week. My last two fasting blood tests were 135-145. Dr. put me on 1.25 glyburide on Friday. I have taken the pill in the morning and then eaten my breakfast. Not a heavy breakfast, but still a breakfast. Then i ride my exercise bike for 40 minutes. Then i drink a sort of fruit smoothie. all before 10 in the morning. Well, by 11:30 my sugar levels are so low (55)that i start to shake and sweat. Any suggestions? I am 5'11 and 190, so not real overweight, but i dont want to gain anymore by constantly eating to get my sugar up.

Since you're still getting used to your new eating plan, you are going to run up against some problems until you understand how your body is working.
You're right to keep a record, but be more specific about exactly what you eat. You might be having foods that are more protein and fat than carbs and along with your medication and exercise you get your numbers too low.
Think about having that fruit smoothie with or as breakfast. That will give you plenty of carbs to work with. The if your numbers are still low you can have a carb break after exercising.
Ask your doctor if you can wait until after exercising to take your medication. Have the fruit smoothie and then exercise, which might be enough to bring your blood sugars down. Then check your numbers and start your day with breakfast.
But always test and talk to your doctor. He will need to know how you are doing and he has the option to change your medication too.
You seem to be doing well in that you are watching yourself closely. Good work.

Glyburide is an insulin secretor. It make the pancreas excrete more insulin. IN your case 145 is not conclusiove as to the need for a insulin stimulent.
In this case you really need to have whats is called a Glucose Tolerance Test.
What we are seeing is a definite increase in people being diagnosed and put on medication when they are not true diabetic but borderline. that is showing a predisposition of diabetes.
The ADA and Joslin have also concluded that 145 is not conclusive.
If you petered out and droppe dinto Hypoglycemia range between 45 and 70 then you need not be on any oral medication and have a second opinion.

yes, this is taking some gettin used to for sure. I guessw their big concern is that my mother, grandmother, and 1 uncle and 2 aunts out of 7 siblings were all diabetic.
The last two days, i have managed not to go too low because i make sure i eat something right after i exercise. If i do not eat enough for breakfast and snack between lunch, then i am in trouble. I seem to be eating more food than before , so now i gauge everything that goes into my mouth as far as fat and calories go. not that i am way overweight. I am 5'11 and 190. and i do work out every day, so it is not your typical fat weight. I will get this one of these days. LOL.
