A friend at work has been promoted and he has asked that our party for him be low key and at a close by Arby's. I have never eaten there and don't have the slightest idea what there is to eat that won't bother my blood sugars.

He has already jokingly told me not to back out of going to his party and I really don't want to miss it. Does anyone know what there is there for a diabetic to eat that won't make my blood sugars go wild?

the best way to eat smatrt is to visit the sites of some of yoru favorite fast foods and look through to see which is balanced.. that is low carb medium protein.

arbys: http://www.arbys.com/nutrition/

i eat at Mckyds..... their double cheesburger from teh value menu balances out protein and carb,, often if you get a side salad and chicken sandwhich its a great meal!

How about the sub shops like Mr. Submarine or Subway?

I notice when they make your sandwich, they pretty much get you to itemize every ingredient that you want on it.

Ham and Swiss melt ;Swiss melt ;Kids junior Roast beef sand. ;Market fresh mini-turkey and cheese sand is ok! I looked at the salads and to much fat ,the wraps sound good for you but are very bad for you, skip them. You have to watch carbs , fat, calories and sodium. Protien is always a plus for you. If you order one of my suggestions and want a salad , skip the croutons and bacon and regular dressing and opt for fat-free or light vinigrette. Better yet ask to see the dressings and compare, watch for calories and fat content:) P.S. there is a book for 8.00$$$ Calorieking.Com get it there or amazon(real cheap) Tells all about fast foods ,nutritional breakdown ,advice and other info.I bought one and liked it so much i bought 3 more for my brothers in Ohio.JERRY from Downey

What a colossal pain. I try not to be too much of a fanatic about my diet, but it's just not worth it to me to break my food plan when the food isn't even something I want.

I think I will do my emergency eating out "act". I eat my meal before I go out and then order something that doesn't look too bad. I act as if I am eating and offer to share food to anyone who will take some, all while talking and having fun with the crowd and drinking some sort of sugar free drink.

If food is left I will get it wrapped up, and because there are always homeless people near the area, I will just give someone in need the rest of the meal.

It's only one time and I'll concentrate on having fun instead of thinking about food.

Eating fast food with diabetes almost seems like an onymoron. My friend who got adult onset has to radically alter his diet to fight the disease (and try to stay off meds to control it) - his biggest things was to stop eating all the crap at FF and also to drop is beer habit. Surprisingly, he dropped about 50 pounds in the process...

I refuse to consume a lot of fast food products. Just some pizza here and there when I am out.

At Mcdonalds get a single McChicken sandwich and a side salad and Yogurt parfeit for dessert! very well balanced for diabetics.

At chik filet get A grilled chicken salad, diet Lemonade or unsweet eta and a small dreamsicle ice cream cone.. again perfect balance ofr a diabetic.

LJS.. get teh NO breaded fish, yes youc an have eiyther the puppies or fries but not both... get an ear of corn instead and enjoy teh colesalw.

Taco bell.. 1 small regular taco or a bellgrande taco is the equivelent of eating 1 slice of bread.. so two is a meal, TAco salad is much better for you.

Burger King a double whopperwiht cheese is equal in protein and carbohydrate.. ist filling wihtout being over standard limits.

Subway si just not worth it. Too much carb in teh bread not enough meat to offset. Quiznos you ahve teh option of any sandwich as a salad and eatteh bread on teh side. You also have tehoption of soups at quiznos.

Consider that 1 slice of pizza no matter where your going is 215 grams of carbihydrate. Most diabetic are only allowed 60 grams per meal MAximum. Most stick with 45 grams. 2 small slices of pie and your over your limit.

Eating at abuffet consider staring with a soup or salad first. Th is fills you up first. then go for smaller portions of other foods.

think before you eat and you can eat anywhere.
I live on the run with my job so eating out is amajor need. I eat healthy and keep my blood sugars in check.
Its all how you look at it.
OH and kids meals are at times even higher in carb. Like a happy meal can go well into the 90s or 100s as far as carbohydrate goes.

Most of my big lunches like salads and desserts keep me under 45 grams of carb per meal........

I think the same rules apply when eating fast food, just as they do when you eat home-made food, or any other type of food.
