I only started drinking soda pop in the last five years and I seem to have built up an addiction to it. I used to swap between diet coke and coke if I was going to be doing some heavy pop drinking like at a sporting event or something.

I had to give up the diet coke because of the heartburn. My partner drinks diet coke all the time, he is diabetic.

I am now worried about my intake because I'm concerned about my possible onset of the disease. I am giving the soda up and I did have my partner pick me up a diet Dr Pepper for later.

I love diet dr pepper!
They say the regular dr pepper makes a good hot beverage but I never tried it. I may dry the diet and see how it tastes.

I just tried it in the microwave, wayyyyyyyyy too sweet but if you mix it half and half with water it's not too bad. I used the diet cream and berries flavored dr pepper.

Dr Pepper sounds like a good choice as I have
enjoyed it in the past. I plan to try some Diet Dr Pepper flavors
and see how I feel about it (but haven't gotten around to it)
There are so many flavors out now I get confused lol.

My partner enjoys Diet Coke, but I think I have seen him have
Diet Dr Pepper on occasion. I did try a diet Orange Sunkist
and I was not all that happy with it. I really like the C2 coke,
but it is not available in my area any longer.

I was in Super Valu grocery store the other day and I noticed
some Faygo soda on the shelf in a variety of diet flavors.
There were orange, pina colada, rootbeer, etc. They are priced
at 3 for .99 cents for a bottle about 1/2 liter in size. Seemed
like quite the bargain. Maybe I will look in to the Faygo line a
bit further.

I will stick to my Perrier water for now and sample
some different pops as time goes on.

I'm still waiting to see the doctor as my appointment was
rescheduled when the doc called in with Strep Throat

Pepsi One Orange? hmm.. sounds cool!

What is also good is water ;)

Really. Artificial sweetners aren't really great for you if you are basically drinking only pop as your liquid, you end up imbibing a hell of a lot of itself.

I tend to drink water and lime juice as a basic drink when I'm thirsty and use pop as a treat.

I also agree! If you really want to get healthy, any kind of pop should be a treat only. Water is a great daily choice. So is V8 vegetable juice. Yum!

Isn't it true that pop doesn't really quench your thirst like water does? Or that maybe pop makes you more thirsty?

All I know is I drink tons of Orange Juice, Gatorade and water. After seeing how pop decayed a tooth overnight, I usually stay away from it.

diet coke/pepsi is the only beverage a diabetic can drink. :(

Unfortunately. The other ones..well, they are full of sugar. It makes your blood sugar levels go skyhigh.

The problem is that any beverage manufactured by Coca Cola Company is very very very bad for your health. And that's a scientifically tested fact. Here are some of the effects these drinks have on your health with long term use:
- peptic ulcer disease
- reflux disease (which can turn into cancer of esophagus after 15-20 yrs of disease; guys, you don't want to have this type of cancer. Read on the internet abt it for more insights into the disease)
-bowel cancer
-it speeds up Alzheimer disease
-liver damage
-heart damage (you can actually develop a heart attack)
-gallbladder damage
and many more:mad:

Incidentally, watch the TLC channel (I think this is the correct one) and see the MYTHBUSTERS. They have already done some experiments with the diet coke. And their conclusions were just amazing:eek: . For real  !

Frankly it seems to me that drinking soda in any form is a bad idea. Not just for the sugar content ( even most of the so called diet drinks have some sugars in them) There are sweetened drinks that are safe for diabetics.

Hey stel2006... What did ya go and post that for? LOL I could have lived just fine without knowing that little bit of astonishing information. I LOVE my coke and pepsi products... Now it really makes me think twice but it is sooo good. I really have a problem with sodas.
